Key Largo Backcountry Fishing

Backcountry fishing in Key largo is a very unique experience. The species of fish we target in the backcountry are generally very different from offshore species. While on an offshore fishing trip you can expect to catch fish like Mahi Mahi, Tuna, Grouper and Wahoo, backcountry fishing usually produces fish like Snook, Tarpon, Redfish, Speckled Sea Trout, Mangrove Snapper and many more!

Backcountry fishing is typically done in very shallow water. Most of the time we will be fishing very close to the mangrove islands or narrow creeks. Anglers can also expect to see a range of wildlife such as dolphins, manatees, all kinds of birds and even saltwater crocodiles depending on the time of year!

The Boat and Captain

Captain Henry Warrington is an experienced backcountry fisherman and a USCG Certified Master Captain with thousands of fishing trips under his belt. He has fished just about every square inch of the backcountry waters of Key Largo and knows where the honey holes are! You will be with him on his 22ft Wellcraft Bay Boat, “The Lazy Luck”,  that has plenty of space for up to 4 anglers. The boat even has a small semi private bathroom for the ladies.

We put a beautiful Red in the box and had to turn back some awesome Snook because the season was closed. We ended the day back at the first spot with a few more Trout. This is hard working Captain who will put you on the fish! He does not accept defeat and when things are not going according to plan, he will go Off Course to find the fish. If you want to do some solid inshore fishing Captain Henry is your man. I think one of things that impressed me the most was the cover never came off of the GPS/fish finder the entire trip.
